(1997-2002) Highway 401 Median Barrier and Associated Highway Improvements

(1997-2002) Highway 401 Median Barrier and Associated Highway Improvements

This was a provincial highways project class environmental assessment for roadway widening and median barrier installation. Due to the requirement for highway widening and median replacement, an assessment was conducted of the resident and migratory fisheries of the Cataraqui River, Little Cataraqui Creek, Collins Creek, and the Greater Cataraqui Marsh as well as resident wildlife and roadside vegetation. During preliminary design it was determined that there was a requirement for highway widening within the Greater Cataraqui Marsh as well as culvert extensions within the Little Cataraqui Creek. A fisheries compensation plan was developed in order to provide a net gain in fish habitat as well as additional marsh habitat for nesting waterfowl.
