(2018-2019) Peregrine Falcon Nest Monitoring QEW - Henley Bridge Reconstruction

(2018-2019) Peregrine Falcon Nest Monitoring QEW - Henley Bridge Reconstruction

During the re-construction of the Queen Elizabeth Way-Henley Bridge in St. Catharines, Ontario it was discovered that a pair of peregrine falcons (Falco peregrinus) had nested on the bridge structure. In order to ensure the protection of this species at risk and its associated nest during bridge construction activities, EcoTec carried out on-site monitoring of the construction activities as well as documented the behaviour of the falcon pair. EcoTec also designed a wireless remote monitoring system that would enable 24-hour monitoring of the nesting pair.
